Sydney’s Rescue Story

Sharing is caring!

If you follow my blog or Facebook at all, then you know I am completely obsessed with my dog, Sydney. She has totally changed my husband and my life. She was a rescue dog, and so tiny when we first found her. I’ve always loved animals, but I can’t begin to explain the amount of love I have for this dog. Today is her birthday and you know I love to celebrate birthdays! So I figured I would tell you the story of how we got her. She has become a big part of our lives in the last four years and part of that is because of how much we had to do for her when we first got her.

Sydney’s Rescue Story

My husband and I had only been married almost a year, and we were living with a roommate. He kept talking about getting a dog, but I’d had dogs before and knew how much work they were, especially at the beginning with all the potty training! We had just moved into a two story condo and I was working in Glendora and he was working out in Mira Loma for a construction company. He called me as he was leaving the office one day and told me he found two small puppies just sitting outside. He said he thought they were about 5 pounds and a couple months old, his coworker wanted to take one, and I told him we could take the other. My plan at the time was that we would find a home for this little puppy. Well he got her home and I immediately realized she was much much younger than he thought she was. We took her to the vet to see if she was chipped, she weighed 1.1 lbs and they estimated that she was 2 weeks old. Looking back, I think she was even younger than that, her ears were definitely still closed, and she had no teeth.

The vet suggested we bottle feed her, but she never took to the bottle. We did have to give her formula, every three hours, for the first couple of weeks. But she drank it straight out of a bowl. She loved us from the very beginning. She would suck on our fingers and fall asleep. I think she loved my husband most, and still does. She loves to be in small spaces, and used to crawl up into his hat and fall asleep. She looked like a little bear cub, and to this day I call her my little bear.

It’s such a trip to look back at the photos of how small she was because she’s grown so much! Please excuse the picture quality, as these are all old phone photos, here’s a few from the first week we got her.

I save everything… so I still have this toy and take it out every once in a while and marvel at how small she was!

These photos are from when she was a couple months old. She didn’t stay small for long!

She’s much much bigger now, as you can see in her 3rd birthday cake smash photos. Sorry for the super sappy post! I just love my little girl and I’m glad I got to share this story with you! She’s an amazing dog who loves the water, just not from the hose, face cuddles, and playing with her millions of toys! Be sure to follow me on Facebook and Instagram if you want to see lots more photos of her.
