What to Expect: Family Session

Sharing is caring!

What to Expect Family Session with family of five by Lanham Photography

Family photo sessions should be relaxed and allow everyone to interact in a natural and calm environment. I want to capture how your family interacts with one another and genuine moments. After you book your family session you are probably wondering what to expect. Read on below to find out what your should expect during your family session.

What to Expect Family Session

Before your session, I will go to the location to scout out the best area to have the session. If you have any spots in mind, you can also let me know. On the day of the session, I will arrive to the location 15 minutes early, in order to get all my equipment ready. I also ask that my clients arrive 5-10 minutes early, so that you can get ready without feeling rushed. I do ask that you please not be late. If you are more than 15 minutes late, we can still do the session. However, the session will be cut short by the amount of time that you were late which means we may not be able to get as many pictures in. If you are 30 minutes late the session will be cancelled and a new session will need to be scheduled along with a new booking fee paid.

Once the session has started, I will direct you to the locations that I feel have the best light for your session. I may ask you to interact with your family, tickle young children, tell them a joke, ect. I try to take a back seat approach to photographing families to allow you to forget that I am there. I don’t want you to be nervous around the camera or be worried about where to look. Don’t feel like you have to constantly be looking at the camera or smiling! Think of this as an hour for your to have fun with your family and play!

I will however, get a couple posed photos of everyone looking at the camera. I realize these are the shots that you are expecting when hiring a professional photographer and I want you to have a wide variety of images that really showcase your family.
