5 Props for Maternity Session Picture of man and pregnant woman holding baby shoes

I love using props during sessions. Now not every session needs to have a prop. Sometimes they can come across as out of place. But during a maternity session there are so many props that can be used to really enhance the photos and be a beautiful keepsake once baby is born!

Props for Maternity Session

1. Books

Do you have a special book that you already read to baby or that you plan to read once baby arrives? You can incorporate that book into your session. Or for a funny take, bring a parenting book or even a what not to do with baby book! There are so many options from sweet to quirky.

2. Shoes

I love the photos with the little shoes and moms bump! It’s such a cute reminder of how small that baby is going to be. Remember to buy newborn shoes, so they they will be tiny. You can buy shoes in any color or style and it will be cute to have pictures of you holding the shoes and then baby wearing them once they arrive.

3. Banner

Banners can be used for so much! You can put baby’s name, your last name, reveal the gender, or put a cute saying. I personally love this banner that says “We Already Love You” from Etsy. The banner can be in the photos and then you can hang it in baby’s room or in the house!

4. Baby Clothes

You probably already have tons of baby clothes! Maybe you bought something for yourself that you love or someone gifted you something special. You can bring clothes that have a cute saying or that go with the theme of the nursery. For my maternity session we brought little jerseys that had been gifted to us. My husband and I have a little rival going on and the team jersey’s are the absolute cutest! So get creative. Even bring a couple clothes and hang them on a clothing line!

5. Chalkboard

I love chalkboards! They are so versatile and you can do so much with them. There are tons of colorful chalks you can choose from and customize it to exactly what you want. You can also use the same chalkboard for monthly photos once baby is born! How cute!

What do you think of these props for maternity session? Would you be interested in using any of these? Of course props are not a necessary part of a maternity session. It’s all about documenting that bump and the beauty that is this time! On the fence about whether or not to have a maternity session? Be sure to check out 5 Reasons to Book a Maternity Session.
