Tips for a Successful Move

Tip 6- Pack Pans Last

This is actually a tip I learned from a friend who was also moving during my last move. She packed all her boxes and finished packing around 9 pm. She went to go make herself an egg and some toast for dinner, but had no pans! Make sure to keep at least a few cooking utensils out to make yourself something quick on the last night before moving day!

Tip 7- Pack an Overnight Bag

Pack a bag of items that you will need immediately. Things like a toothbrush, change of clothes, any important medication. I also like the have my pillow, new sheets, soap, some food, and toilet paper handy. I’m always amazed at how long the move takes and then I have nothing, so I pack as many essentials that will fit in my car as I can.

Tip 8- Get Wardrobe Boxes

The moving company we use, Best Moving Service, will provide these for free. You load up all your clothes, on hangers, into the boxes still hanging. You can also shove pillows, blankets, and other items into the bottom of the wardrobe boxes. Once you get to your destination, all you have to do is hang the clothes in the closet and you’re done! These boxes save so much time.

Tip 9- Splurge for the Dish/Glass Boxes

I’ve always bought them from UHaul, but I saw Home Depot has them too. They are much more expensive that just a regular box and newspaper, but so worth it. They come with cushioned sleeves for plates and glasses. In all our moves, I’ve only lost one wine glass. All my other plates and glasses have survived; I think that’s pretty amazing.

I’d love to hear if any of these tips helped you! Also, be sure to check out my first post for more helpful tips for a successful move!
