I love plants, they make me happy and I love having them in my house. So I thought it would be fun to make a terrarium ornament for the Christmas tree.

This ornament can use any succulents you want. I would stick to succulents and not other types of house plants since succulents need relatively low water. Which makes them perfect for a craft like this.

If you don’t like succulents, you can also use air plants. Just don’t put any soil in your ornament and arrange the air plants however you like.

Tip for Terrarium Ornament

Use Succulents you Already Have

There is no need to go out and buy new succulents for this ornament! If you already have succulents, use those for this project.

Hand holding a succulent leaf that is growing a tiny new succulent

This ornament can be made with succulents you already have at home, by propagating the leaves a few months before you plan to make the ornament. Or, if you have large succulents that need pruning, you can take some cutting and have them root in the terrarium.

Use Moist Soil

Wet the soil before adding it to your ornament. This will make sure that there is no pooling water in the ornament, which will rot the roots of the succulents. But that there is enough moisture for the succulent to thrive.

Use a Wood Burning Tool

If attempting to cut a hole in a plastic ornament, do not use scissors. Instead use something hot to melt the plastic and create a hole. I used a wood burning tool. Also make sure to use proper safety gear so you don’t hurt yourself.
