Do you find that all the personalized stockings go fast? I can never find personalized stockings at the store. And also, I love our stockings. We have two matching for our kids, two matching for my husband and I, and smaller ones from Target for our dogs.

But I wanted to be able to tell the apart. So I decided to put initials on each of them to make it easier to know whose is whose.

How To Make a Simple Personalized Stocking

I used two different methods for personalizing my stockings. I’m going to show you both ways in the post.

Personalizing Stockings with Embroidery

This is the more difficult way to personalize stockings, but it is a beautiful finish product.

Supplies Needed for Embroidery Personalization

Stockings
Scissors
Embroidery Thread in the color you want
Embroidery Needle
Pencil

How to Embroider a Stocking

I used a pencil to lightly draw out a letter for each of my child’s first names. Then used a simple back stitch to trace over the letter. I am very new to embroidery and it worked great. When I was finished, I did some french knots around one stocking to add a little extra.

Two white stockings hanging. One has a J embroidered and the other has an E and french knots.

Personalizing Stockings with Felt

The stockings I got for my pups were a little harder to work on. I tried to do embroidery first, and the knit of the stocking made it very difficult. So I decided to use felt instead.

Supplies Needed for Felt Personalization

Felt in colors you want
Cricut or cutting machine
Scissors
Glue

7 stockings hanging. 2 personalized with embroidery, 3 personalized with felt, and 2 unpersonalized.

How to Personalize Stocking with Felt

Because I had messed up trying to personalize the stockings with embroidery first, I had to figure out a cute way to cover up my mistake. I decided to do a felt square as the back for the personalization. I think this turned out really cute, but it’s not necessary to do if you’re not covering anything up.

But keep it in mind, because sometimes the lesser used letters are all you can find and not even a blank stocking. This would allow those to be used as well.

Then I used my Cricut to cut out the first letter of all my dogs names. Then, used my trusty hot glue gun to glue onto the stockings.

I think these turned out really cute and now everyone knows which stocking is there’s!
