Christmas Eve Traditions

Christmas Eve is my favorite night of the whole year!! There’s so much excitement and anticipation! But it doesn’t have to be all about Christmas morning. Whether your family is just starting out like mine or you have been at this game for a while, start Christmas Eve traditions that will keep your family looking forward to the night all December long. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Christmas Eve Traditions

Plan a Special Meal

I don’t know about your family, but my family is all about food. If there’s no left over that means we didn’t make enough!! Our traditional Christmas Eve meal has always been sausage sandwiches with homemade sauce and I look forward to them every year. I’m sure this is tradition that our little family will continue, especially since my husband loves it! Pick a food your family loves. Whether that’s breakfast for dinner, a ham feast, or hot chocolate and chicken nuggets, pick a meal you love and will look forward to year after year.

Play a Game

This may not work if you have a large group that gets together, but playing a family game could be fun. It doesn’t have to be anything long. Maybe you play I spy, or Monopoly, or Go Fish. Pick a family favorite! You can even let one kid choose each year.

Go Caroling

No, you don’t have to walk around the neighborhood. Just put on your favorite Christmas music and rock out. Dance, laugh, and sing, and cherish all those eye rolls!

Watch a Christmas movie

If you don’t go anywhere Christmas eve, cuddle up on the couch and watch a Christmas movie together. Get the movie theater butter popcorn and all those movie theater snacks. Put on your favorite Christmas PJs and watch a movie.

Have a “camp out”

Pull out the sleeping bags, or just pile on the pillows and blankets! Make a little sleep area by the tree and let the kids sleep there for the night!

What are your favorite Christmas Eve traditions? I would love to know! Leave them in the comments below!
