2020 was a weird year. Obviously, we all know that. But do you remember what you did for Halloween?

My kids were young, but I still wanted to make Halloween special. So we built a cardboard neighborhood out front. Then, I decorated all our interior doors so we could do trick or treating at home.

cardboard neighborhood to go trick or treating in.

John, my parents, and I donned multiple different costumes as the kids ran from door to door in our house. It was so much fun!

We had such a great time, that we did it again two years later in 2022. My son came down with a stomach bug the day before Halloween and was so sad to miss out. So we decorated and put on costumes and threw a trick or treating party at home.

Tips for Halloween Door Decorations

How to attach the table cloth to the door?

Attaching the table cloth to the door can be a little bit tricky. I found starting at the top to be the easiest.

Get a ladder and drape the plastic table cloth over the top of the door. Tape the table cloth to the back of the door.

Then, secure the sides of the table cloth to each side of your door. Make sure to gently pull around the hinges.

Finally, secure the bottom of the table cloth to the door. Pull gently so the table cloth is taught and then wrap around the door like a present.

Here are some door decoration ideas:

Dracula’s Door

Purple table cloth with black hair. Cut oblong white circles to make the eyes and attach smaller black centers for the pupils.

For the bow, cut two triangles and a small circle. Tape the triangle points together and affix a small circle into the center of the triangle points.

Ghost Door

By far the easiest door! IF you already have white doors, you wouldn’t even have to put the table cloth up.

Cut eyes and a mouth from black construction paper and affix to the door. If affixing directly to the door use blue tape. If affixing to the tablecloth use clear tape.

Headless Man

Or Robin Hood. Cut pants and a shirt from construction paper. Make sure to cut out hangs and feet too. Affix to your door.

Then cut a hat out of construction paper and add it to the top of the shirt. The feather in the hat is optional.

Floating Pumpkins

I love pumpkin crafts! They are so simple to make and this is something the kids can help with too.

Cut circles, ovals, and squares out of orange construction paper. Cut brown stems and use yellow for triangle eyes and mouths.

Then just affix to your door as you see fit.

Night Sky

This one I wanted to look like a tall building in the night. Cut a big moon from white construction paper. Use a marker to draw a witch flying on her broom.

Cut out yellow squares and draw lines on them to turn them into windows. Then cut white ghosts out and use markers to add eyes and a mouth.

Witches Door

Make a bug witches nose, I used green construction paper and also made the teeth green. Don’t forget a pointy hat!

These doors would be super cute for a classroom, a Halloween party, or just to decorate inside the house for Halloween.
