There’s one question that always haunts me during the Christmas season.

How do I make Christmas about Jesus?

There’s so many fun things going on. I’m excited about gifts and getting to see family. I love decorating the house and planning and crafting.

I enjoy getting to plan fun Christmas activities for my family. And while I want to make sure my children experience all the magic and wonder of Christmas, I also want to make sure that they are aware of the reason that we celebrate.

So how do I make sure that Christmas stays about Jesus? I turn to the Bible.

Where is the story of Christmas in the Bible?

There are two stories of Jesus birth in the Bible. The first is in Matthew 1 and 2 and the second in Luke 1 and 2. Each book gives the account of Jesus birth and a few details leading up to his birth.

I figured these would be the best verses to read throughout the Christmas season. I settled on Matthew 1:18-25, Matthew 2:1-12, Luke 1:26-38, and Luke 2:1-21.

These verses give the whole picture of what the Bible has to say about Jesus birth. I am no Bible scholar, so if there are more verses directly related to His birth, please let me know.

Bible Advent Calendar

As a family, we read 2 verses every night. I broke them up that we read Matthew 1 first, then Luke 1, then we go to Matthew 2 and Luke 2 as the former focuses on before his birth and the latter 2 focus on his birth.

We discuss the verses as a family and pray. This keeps our mind on the real reason for the season.

We don’t have to stop doing all the other fun stuff to make sure that we aren’t missing the point of Christmas. Have open honest discussions, and reach for your Bible.
