The theme for this week was time. I was unsure how to photograph time, I was trying to think of something surreal, something to describe time. But than I read that the Tall Ships were coming to Ventura Harbor. I wasn’t exactly sure what that was, but it sounded awesome! They are these old time merchant vessels, or as I kept calling them, pirate ships. They have a whole crew that lives aboard them and they travel the coast from British Columbia down to San Diego, docking in harbors along the way and offering tours and adventure sails. My husband and I went on one of the tours. The ships are pretty small themselves, but super interesting. Walking around the ship I thought how terrifying it might have been to be stuck on one of these boats in the middle of the ocean for months or even years at a time. I don’t do well on boats so that wouldn’t be for me at all. But just walking through the boat transported you back to a different era, a time when these boats were the only way to get goods across an ocean. It was really neat to get to be able to experience that. The Tall Ships are in the Ventura Harbor until February 3rd, and if you want to learn more about the boats you can go here: http://historicalseaport.org/
This is part of an ongoing project, where I will be posting one a week. You can see all my posts for my 2015 Project 52 here.
