For Project 52 this week, there was not a theme. My goal this week was to go around town and find something that caught my eye and then to take a picture of that. My husband and I are in a bowling league on Tuesday nights at the Wagon Wheel and we usually end up with time to kill before the league starts. We were out driving around and we decided it would be fun to walk through The Collections mall in Oxnard. They have these benches around little water areas and its super cute and would be a great location for a photo shoot.
Next to one of these water features is a Toby Keith’s “I Love this Bar”. I love this place, it’s pretty fun to go to and I love the decor. The outside area has these big American flags made out of wood paneling, really gorgeous. Anyways, I decided to use that as my subject, since the glad kind of spoke to me. I didn’t love the way it looked when the flag was the only focus of the photo. They are still on the side of a building, and the building doesn’t have the same rustic charm that the flag does. I thought it looked off.
So, instead, I focused on some flowers that were on a fence in the foreground and let the flag take up the whole background area. I love the play here, with the different textures and pops of color, and the femininity of the flowers mixed with the rustic worn look of the flag. I think it just makes for a really great photo. I’d love to go down there and take some portraits in front of those flags because I just think they make a really great backdrop.
This part of an ongoing project, where I will be posting one a week. You can see all my posts for my 2015 Project 52 here.
