I had the honor of doing a cake smash shoot for a little boy’s first birthday in Diamond Bar! I have known this little boy, Joey, since shortly after he was born. His parents are good friends of ours, his dad and my husband are cousins. I also had the honor of photographing their maternity photos, so I was super excited to be able to photograph Joey’s Cake Smash. He is just the cutest little boy and so photogenic.
The shoot was so much fun! We did it in their backyard in the grass. We chose the grass because he was able to get all messy and the grass really adds that extra “boy” feel to it. Plus, the grass makes for extra easy cleanup during a cake smash, since it is guaranteed that cake will be everywhere! I just love the way it turned out! We were a little worried that he would not be totally interested in the cake, but Joey did not waste anytime diving right. Even before we put him in front of it he was trying to touch it with his foot! He actually succeeded and got frosting all over his toes. As soon as we put it in front of him he immediately reached out to try to touch it, mom had to try to hold him back to make sure he was in the right position. But as soon as she let go he got his hands covered in frosting and wasted no time tasting the cake and getting his face covered in frosting.
It was so much fun to watch him get messy and to see how much fun he was having! It was a joy for me to take these photos and I laugh even when I look through them remembering how much he was just loving that cake. Here are some of my favorite photos from his session.
I think it’s safe to say that Joey had so much fun during his cake smash! The cute backdrop in the photos Joey’s parents made for the shoot and now I’ll have it for future shoots. I can even change the fabric out to have an unlimited amount of backdrop combinations.
I had so much fun with this shoot and I can’t wait to do another Cake Smash! If you have a little one who is turning one soon and you’d like to do a cake smash session please contact me to set up your shoot!
