St. Dorothy’s Oak Tree Festival is one of my favorite activities of the entire year! I look forward to this weekend all year. My family has been going to this festival for as long as I can remember and it’s a tradition that my husband and I have continued even before little man came into the picture. I’ve always wanted to take pictures at a carnival and while I have taken some pictures in years passed, I wanted to do an actual session at the festival this year. So I took to Instagram. I posted a request about wanting to do a session at Oak Tree Festival and that I was looking for models. Caitlin from Killer Cupcake Photography reached out to me about wanting to model. I have met Caitlin on a number of occasions, we have mutual friends and she works at one of my mom’s favorite downtown Glendora stores, Knot Too Shabby. I was thrilled when she reached out to me and was excited about getting to photograph her!
We met on Friday night at the festival and got right to shooting. We started a little bit later than originally planned, but it worked out perfect. All the rides were lit up and the sky was a beautiful blue color. Caitlin was so much fun to shoot with. She is an expert at posing and is fearless and fun. We had a good time walking around the festival looking for interesting locations.
I really wanted to shoot in front of the Mega Loop. I’ve always thought of this ride as being kind of iconic to Oak Tree Festival, so I had to have photos in front of it. As we started setting up the shots, Caitlin said that we should get some cotton candy to use for these photos. It was a brilliant idea, so we quickly ran to the food booth to get some cotton candy.
I love the way these photos came out. They are so fun and vibrant and I think really capture Caitlin’s unique personality and electricity. This was a fun shoot for me too because I usually shoot multiple people, so it was fun to shoot with just one person and in a different environment. Hoping to do more shoots like this in the future!
