I love chalkboards! I want them everywhere and so you will probably see a couple chalkboard DIY’s. I always wanted to chalkboard my fridge or washer and dryer in my house, but we rent and those things come with the house. I don’t think the owners would like that much! So I decided to chalkboard the fridge in our motorhome. But, I decided that wasn’t enough. I wanted more chalkboard!
The front door of the motorhome was so boring, and I had seen some people on Pinterest who had done some cute things with chalk. I had chalkboard paint around the house that I had bought at Home Depot to paint a pool table that we were redoing, that ended up to be too much work, so I never used it.
I taped off as much of the door that I could reach. Then painted the door chalkboard. I didn’t take a picture of that step. I decided I wanted to have something decorative, semi predominately on the door. So I found some camp rules I really liked, printed them out on multiple pages until they were big enough to look good in the space I had. I taped them all together so they matched up. . I then put chalk all over the back of it, taped it up on my door, and then traced all the letters.
I had to press a little hard, but it transferred through alright.
This is what you are left with, you can see that it is very faint. I had already started retracing, from the bottom up. So you can see “make memories” is much more pronounced then the rest of it is. I used chalk pens that I had bought online. Be careful if you decide to go this route because I found out later that the color ones don’t really wash off my doors. The white ones seem to do ok though.
This is what it looked like once it was all traced over. I then decided to do a little filling in on some of the letters that were open. So it ended up looking like this once it was all done.
I think it looks really awesome! I’m planning on making a pennant of some kind to put over it to dress it up a little bit more. If you want to see more DIY Projects and pictures, be sure to follow my Pinterest Board!
