I love maternity shoots! I love taking pictures of beautiful expectant mothers. There’s usually just a different type of excitement during maternity shoots. Baby is coming in just a few weeks and there is such excitement and nervous energy. The looks soon to be moms and dads give their bumps just make my heart melt! So much love there! And the love was definitely palpable at Chris and Erika’s session. I had the honor of shooting their maternity session during their first pregnancy and also the cake smash for Joey’s one year. So I was beyond excited when I found out they were pregnant again and wanted me to do their pictures for their second pregnancy!
Erika and I talked about what type of location she wanted and she said she wanted a desert, wilderness location for the shoot. I racked my brain to think of locations like this around the Glendora area and drove all around the city until I finally stumbled upon this location in Claremont and knew it would be perfect! I sent Erika some photos of the location and she loved them, so we planned to meet there early one morning. I’d never been there in the morning and let me tell you we lucked out with the light! It was deliciously wonderful (yes, light can be delicious). The sun would peak out over one of the ridges and cast the valley below in its golden light and create beautiful rays of sun. Definitely created some of my favorite pictures from this session.
But let’s talk about those outfits! They could be models in a magazine and will definitely be an example to other clients of a perfect color coordinated look for the whole family. I love the royal blue dress that Erika is wearing; she looks gorgeous! And Joey was such a trooper! He was a little out of sorts when we started, it was early and he was all dressed up, I’m sure he was more then a little confused. But he was just happy to be with his dad and to climb on the rocks!
This session will go down as one of my favorite session so far. The outfits, that beautiful light, and don’t forget the love that this family shares, definitely make this one to remember. I can’t wait until this new little bundle of joy arrives and for all the photo shoots to come!
