7 Things a New Mom Really Needs

Sharing is caring!

It’s so easy to get caught up in everything you need for the baby, but what about you, mom?! You are going to be recovering from birth and taking care of a new little human being. These are some things that will definitely make your life a little easier and a lot more enjoyable!

1. A Camera!

Whether you use your phone, point and shoot, or DSLR you really need a camera. Newborns change so quickly and every moment must be documented!!

2. Sprout Baby

Or really any baby tracking app. This one is 4.99 and you can sync it with your partner and/or baby sitter. It helps you keep track of feedings, diaper changes, and sleep. Such a helpful tool. Sure you can use a pen and paper, but my phone is always in my hand. I don’t have to run around the house looking for it. The app also adds everything up for me and I can quickly look at daily and weekly overviews.

3. Sleep!

Everyone says sleep when baby sleeps. For me that was close to impossible since baby only slept in my arms. But really sleep, whenever and however you can.

4. A Hobby

I obsessed over baby for the first few weeks. Maybe it’s because he was in the NICU, maybe it’s because I’m just an anxious and worrisome person. Either way, taking some time to myself to blog, edit photos, make announcements, or write in the baby journal really helped to relax me and keep me sane.

5. Snacks

Again, baby wouldn’t let me put him down. So Belvita bars, cheese sticks, crackers and humas, peperoni and salami, kept me alive. Have snacks you love and can easily eat with a baby in your arms.

6. A Comfortable Chair

I spent a lot of time in the rocking chair in the living room or on the couch. As did my husband. Make sure it has arm rests, that are actually at arm height. Mine weren’t, and when your holding a sleeping baby your arms get really tired really fast. You will be super thankful for a comfortable chair that you can nurse in, your partner can use to feed baby bottles, or to just snuggle up while baby sleeps.

7 Support

Find a good support team. Thank your support team. Tell your support team all the time how much you love them and how much they help you. Sleepless nights and crying babies are hard. Don’t take it out on your support team. Tell them your stresses, thank them for listening, let them help you.
